An Internet search engine is a piece of software that, in answer to a user's query, returns hyperlinks to web pages and other relevant data on the Internet. When a user types a query into a web browser or a mobile app, a list of hyperlinks with text summaries and images is often displayed as the search results. 

Additionally, users can restrict their search to only see results that are relevant to their query, such as news, videos, or photographs. A search engine is a tool that allows users to look up stuff on the internet. 

Popular search engines include DuckDuckGo, Baidu, Yahoo, Bing, and Google. Among the most popular search engines globally, Google is utilized in conjunction with the Chrome browser. Thus, practically everybody has heard of it.

When a user searches for anything on the internet, a search engine completes three crucial tasks:

• Indexing

• Ranking

Every time a person uses Google to look up information, they must enter a query into the search field. Using its own crawlers, the search engine scans hundreds of websites on behalf of the user.

The content found during the crawling process is stored and arranged in this process. In essence, this stage indexes the web pages that should be displayed in response to the user's query.

Rank

This method places the most relevant content—that is, the best response to the user's query—at the top. It indicates that the web page with the most pertinent result appears first.

1. Yahoo

The most widely used search engine was Yahoo. Yahoo's market share declined when Google became the dominant search engine. The Yahoo search engine is hardly used by anyone these days.

Since 2014 until now, Yahoo has been Mozilla Firefox's default search engine in the United States. The Yahoo search engine and the Mozilla Firefox web browser are not the same thing. In the US, Yahoo is the most used search engine.

2. Baidu

The reason Baidu is the most widely used and well-liked search engine in China is that it is available in Chinese. In addition to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, and the Republic of Korea all actively use it. It is not easily obtainable in India.

It offers common search functions, such as text, image, and audio searches. This implies that a user can use text, image, and audio search functions on Baidu.

3. Google

Google is the most widely used search engine because it provides consumers with an easy-to-use interface. As to Alexa's computation, Google has achieved the highest rating and holds the top spot globally and in the US as well. 

Google modifies its algorithms frequently to give users the best possible experience. Google offers its users high-quality search together with the most relevant results.

4. Bing

Currently known as Microsoft Bing, Bing is a Microsoft product. October 2020 saw the relaunch of Bing as Microsoft Bing. Microsoft Another well-known search engine that comes in second to Google is Bing. Even though Bing has a lower search ratio than Google, it nevertheless comes in second.

By default, Microsoft Bing is included with the Windows operating system. Therefore, there's no need to install it individually. Home pages are ranked by Microsoft Bing, not blogs. Compared to Google, Microsoft Bing has a higher character restriction. While Google only permits 25 characters for titles, it accepts 40.

5. DuckDuckGo 

Multiple language versions of the web search engine DuckDuckGo are available. The shortened form of DDG also refers to DuckDuckGo. Although DuckDuckGo is not as well-known as Google, you have definitely heard of this search engine. 

The fact that DuckDuckGo does not save user personal information is one of the search engine's top features. Therefore, you shouldn't be concerned about your data or that the boogeyman is observing you via your computer screen.

6. Yandex 

Yandex serves various features to its users, which makes it interesting and useable. It provides music features, online translators, and cloud storage to store the data online that can be available anytime and anywhere to its users.  Yandex search engine is available in English and Cyrillic So, almost everyone can easily use it.

7. AOL

America Online is referred to as AOL. It initially came into being in 1985. The AOL search engine has all the features that are necessary for a search engine, as the name suggests. On its main page, users can search through several news categories to view the most recent news updates.

8. The Internet Archive

"Universal access to all knowledge" is the primary goal of the Internet Archive search engine, which is essentially an American digital library. Compared to other search engines, this one is unique. In essence, it's a really helpful tool for tracking down the history of outdated websites. This search engine will display a website's visual history from 1996 onward.
