What is a Mouse?
A mouse is a small hardware device that serves as an input and pointing tool. It is held by the hand and used to control the movements of the cursor on a computer screen. It enables users to select and move files and folders on their computer.
The mouse requires a hard, flat surface to function properly. When users move the mouse, the cursor moves in the same direction as the display screen. The name "mouse" comes from its size, as it is a small, oval-shaped device that resembles a mouse.
The mouse typically has two buttons (left button and right button), a scroll wheel, and a ray sensor. They are used to move the cursor on the screen, select objects, and click on buttons.
Using the Mouse
Most computer programs rely on the mouse, for better or worse. We can practice the numerous tasks we can do with a mouse by doing the activities below.
Let's click to get things started. We can communicate with the computer and instruct it what to perform by clicking. Click by using your index finger to push and release the left mouse button.
1. Rollover
Many times, an icon will change in look when we move the cursor over it. We refer to this as the rollover effect. It may indicate that we can interact with the icon, or it could just be a way to show you where our cursor is right now.
2. Drag and drop
Icons may occasionally need to be moved around by dragging and dropping them. You may use this to move files to new folders, remove them, and do a lot more.
3. Double Clicking
Double-clicking is the rapid double-clicking of the mouse button. We can use this to launch desktop apps and open folders and files.
